Digital Radiology

At National Dental Williston Park, we strive to provide you with the best possible oral health care. To achieve this goal, we utilize some of the latest technologies available in the dental field. X-rays are a critical part of your oral healthcare record. They allow us to see the areas of your mouth that cannot otherwise be seen with a visual inspection, such as between your teeth and under your gums. Whether we are monitoring the health of your mouth, or diagnosing an oral health issue, we use digital X-rays for your imaging needs.

Traditional X-rays, which have been used for decades, use radiation to capture images of the inside of your mouth. Digital X-rays, which are the latest development in X-ray technology, use electronic technology to both capture images and develop them. To capture these images, we place an electronic sensor inside your mouth. This sensor is hooked up to a computer. With the click of a button on the computer, the image is taken, and it appears within seconds on the computer’s monitor.

You are probably familiar with the physical file folders that have been used for many years to store your information, including your X-rays. Over time, your file would become larger. The risk for your older images and information getting lost or destroyed increased. Today, at National Dental, your information, and your digital X-rays are stored in a digital computer file. If we need to pull up an older image to compare to your latest one, all we have to do is click a few buttons.

We can do so much more with digital X-rays than we ever could before with traditional X-rays. With specialized software, we can zoom in on suspect areas, and enhance the image for more clarity. We can change the display from negative to black and white to color. All of these features allow us to provide you with a much more accurate diagnosis. We can spot the smallest issues within your mouth and take action before they become serious, helping you to avoid the need for more invasive treatments later.

Traditional X-ray technology relies on radiation to capture images. This exposure has raised many issues with patients. Digital X-ray technology relies on electronic technology. In most cases, your exposure to radiation is reduced up to 95%.

To develop traditional X-ray images, chemicals are required. These chemicals are not very environmentally friendly. With digital X-rays, we do not need to develop your images. This means that we do not need to use these chemicals anymore, which greatly reduces our impact on the environment.

Developing traditional X-ray images takes time. We would need to leave the exam room and go to a dark room, leaving you alone while we worked on developing your images. This was valuable appointment time wasted. Digital X-ray images appear almost instantly. We don’t have to leave the room at all. We spend your entire appointment time with you, helping you to understand the image, your diagnosis, and your treatment options.

With digital X-ray technology, we can provide you with a much higher quality of care than ever before. Contact National Dental Williston Park today at (516) 686-9780 for more information.
