When it comes to tooth loss, dentures have long been the solution of choice. Today, you have another option – dental implants. Even though dental implants involve a more invasive procedure to place them, they offer numerous benefits over traditional dentures. At National Dental Williston Park, we offer multiple types of dental implants, including All-on-4® Treatment Concept.

Dental implants are the newest option available for replacing missing teeth and require a surgical procedure to place them. They consist of small titanium rods, which we insert into your jawbone. As you heal from surgery, your jawbone fuses to the titanium rods, essentially turning them into strong, stable “roots” that provide support for your replacement teeth. Implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth, from a single tooth to an entire mouth.

The stability and success of your dental implants rely on a process known as “osseointegration.” This is the fusion of your jawbone to the titanium implants. When you are missing an entire arch of missing teeth, we typically place six to eight implants. If your jawbone is lacking strength, the implants may fail. Even one single failing implant can compromise the integrity of your implant supported dentures. Bone loss occurs naturally as a result of tooth loss. The longer you go without replacing your teeth with implants, the more bone mass is lost. This used to mean that your chances of being considered a candidate for implants decreased significantly. For some patients, a bone graft can restore missing bone mass, but this requires another invasive surgical procedure and lengthy healing period.

This is where All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants come in. These implants provide an alternative, helping you to avoid a bone graft (or getting dentures). Rather than using 6 to 8 implants to support your replacement teeth, we use four implants. You may be wondering how we can provide you with more stability. With this treatment, stability relies on the strategic placement of 4 implants.

Placing your All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants is similar to the procedure used for placing regular dental implants. We start with a local anesthetic. We can also provide you with sedation if necessary. We then make incisions in your gums, exposing the jawbone. We drill into your jawbone and place your implants. With All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants, two of your implants are inserted vertically at the front of your jaw. The other two implants are placed at the back of the jaw, each at a 45-degree angle. This maximizes contact with your jawbone. In your upper jaw, this angle also helps to avoid your maxillary sinus cavities. Once the implants have been placed, your gums are stitched closed around the implants, and temporary teeth are placed.

Healing from surgery can take up to a few months to complete. During this time, your jawbone will fuse with the implants. We will monitor your progression to ensure you are healing properly. Once you have healed completely, we start the process for your permanent teeth. After your permanent teeth have been created, they are screwed in place on the implants, and you are left with a permanent, beautiful smile.

There are several benefits of All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants:

  • You undergo less surgery.
  • Your downtime is decreased.
  • These implants help you to avoid the need for a bone graft.
  • You can enjoy the many benefits dental implants have to offer.
